A short, third excerpt from ‘A Chinese Christmas Carol’

“Joie, you must not make the same mistake that I did. When you
become a mother, you must bond with your child or children, because
if you don’t, they will never be close to you, and they will never see you
as their mother. Many times have I regretted what I did to Libby and
Claudette. Sometimes I wonder what it would have been like if I hadn’t
slapped them and had treated them the same way I had treated your
mother. They were both still my daughters, and yet, I never got to show
and give them my motherly love the way I had shown and given your
mother. What kind of a mother am I not to have shown and given all my
daughters the same kind of love?”
